No. You should complain to the rental agency as soon as you discover any faults or defects in the holiday home.

The fee for bringing a case before the Board of Appeal is DKK 300 (approximately EUR 40). The fee will be refunded to the complainant if the complaint is upheld in whole or in part.

The Board of Appeal aims to keep costs to a minimum, ensuring a fair and accessible complaints process without the need for substantial legal expenses.

Complaint statistics for 2025

  • 5 complainants had their complaints fully upheld.

  • 24 complainants had their complaints partially upheld.

  • 47 complainants were not successful in their complaints.

Many rental agencies are experienced in handling complaints and therefore often offer compensation similar to the amount awarded by the Board of Appeal. A complaint being dismissed does not necessarily mean that the complainant received no compensation. It may imply that the Board of Appeal upheld the compensation offered by the rental agency at the outset.

The Board of Appeal meets four to five times a year. As a result, it may take several months, and in some cases up to 18 months, for a case to be considered.

A settlement is generally reached and implemented within one to two months.

As a general rule, yes.

The Board of Appeal handles complaints from tenants concerning holiday home rentals arranged by rental agencies established in Denmark. This means that the holiday home may be located abroad, provided that the rental agency is established in Denmark.

A complaint against a rental agency established outside Denmark may also be considered if the case has a closer connection to Denmark than to the country where the agency is established, or if the parties agree that the case should be considered by the Board.

If the holiday home or holiday apartment is located in Denmark, the Board of Appeal can consider the complaint.

However, the Board of Appeal cannot consider complaints concerning holiday accommodation abroad if the accommodation was booked through a platform such as Booking.com or Airbnb.
